Resistance to Solvents testing is intended to determine the ability of a device to withstand exposure to solvents so that the solvents do not cause deleterious, electrical or mechanical damage, or deterioration of the material or finishes.

This test consists of immersing three groups of devices into one of three solvents for a minimum of one minute. After fully immersing the sample, it is removed and brushed with ten strokes across the portion of each device where marking has been applied. This is repeated two additional times. After the 3rd immersion and brushing, the devices are rinsed and all surfaces air blown dry. After five minutes, they are examined to determine if any damage has occurred. Any damage is considered to be a failure as well as any missing, faded, smeared, or blurred markings.
